THE PROCESS

Marlene Xenis had the initial idea to create the most stunning wooden dolls ever made, and she wanted it to be Geppetto and Pinocchio.

The first step to creating this work of art was to get the sculpts done. Ross Adams and Marlene brainstormed ideas on what these dolls should look like and Ross created beautiful sculpts of the head hands and feet for both Geppetto and Pinocchio.

Once the sculpts were designed, Tania Xenis began the process of carving the pieces from maple. She has become the Xenis Collections personal ‘Geppetto’. With the help of Randy Bishop it has taken several years and for Tania to complete this project.

Due to the commitment and hard work of several artists we have been able to create a masterpiece we are truly proud of. We would like to extend our gratitude to everyone who was involved in this project.

A true work of art, Geppetto and Pinocchio will take your breath away.
Geppetto stands an amazing 36” in height and has 13 moveable joints. His innovative jointing system allows him to stand on his own and he can be posed in a variety of different positions. His worn shoes, rough hands and kindly face are carved entirely from western maple as is the rest of his body. Light washes of paint and stain were used to allow the beauty of the wood to shine through. Geppetto wears black wool pants, a brown dupioni silk vest, a cream linen shirt and a work worn leather apron.

Geppetto’s son Pinocchio is a fully functional 19” marionette. He is entirely carved from western maple and has an all leather jointing system. His outfit includes green suede shorts, a white linen shirt, a brown wool vest and a red dupioni silk bow tie.

Geppetto's hand made wooden toolbox is at his side. This toolbox is made in the traditional style (no metal screws). Under glass you will find a 72 note music box.
