Hitty (short for Mehitabel) is a tiny wooden doll found by author Rachel Field in a New York City antique shop in the winter of 1927. The original Hitty doll was carved from mountain ash wood, about 6½ inches tall, with pegged arms and legs, each pair moving together, but no one knows by whom. The original Hitty is on display in the The Historic Room at the Stockbridge Library Museum, in Stockbridge, Massachusetts.
